Thankful ...

I hope this month finds you reviewing the things you're thankful for. Yes, we all know how true it is that we should be thankful on a daily basis. And I couldn't agree more. Even still, it's a good thing that our country stops at least some of the whirlwind of life for the specific purpose of giving thanks.

I'm thankful, first and foremost, for the saving hand of a loving God. The heart that would pour out the life of His one and only Son ... I have two sons and can't imagine the pain and grief of giving one, even though the purpose would be a good one.

I'm thankful for my wife, Colleen; the love of my life with whom I will celebrate the most wonderful 20 years of my life this coming March. I can hardly believe it's been that long, but it has, and our love has grown that deep.

I'm thankful for the miracle of adoption that allowed me to become a Dad. Having just turned 40 a few weeks ago, the Lord gave me a word a year or so ago that my 40's are to be about building two great men. My sons, Joshua and Jonathan, are almost 11 and almost 10. This is the decade where those building blocks of the last few years must begin to gel into something great. I love these guys!

I'm thankful for my own Mom and Dad, who did their best to see that I was raised in God's ways. Much of their influence makes me what I am today, and I'm thankful for that.

I'm thankful for these last few years. Tiring and hard as they have often been, the Lord is allowing me to begin to see some of their fruit in the return of my own health and the lives being transformed around me and through our ministry as of late.

I'm thankful He is using the pain of the last few years. NewHeart, your influence was amazingly profound as about 125 Pastors and Leaders from all over the West Coast gathered on October 19 for The Emotionally Healthy Church Conference. Quite a number of congregations are now being touched with the message of emotional health and spiritual maturity being inseparable. I am still in awe of many comments I am receiving about how your heart was so strongly felt by these leaders.

I'm thankful for you, NewHeart. December 1 will mark 20 years of ministry that I have had the privilege to enjoy here in Simi Valley. I do love the city the Lord has placed us in, and I love you very much! I don't say it often, but do not want another season to pass without you hearing it clearly. I love you very much and am grateful for your partnership in being sure that all of Simi Valley has the chance to respond to God's Love!

Finally, let me encourage you toward that very end as I close this month's letter ... the "end" being the goal of doing what we can to be sure our city knows about God's Love. Over the next couple of weeks, you and your neighbors (for those who live in Simi Valley) will be receiving a DVD either at your door or through the mail. The DVD is called "Just Stop and Think".

Cornerstone Community Church and Pastor Francis Chan have put together this marvelous project that introduces people to Jesus Christ very clearly and concisely. Intentionally, they have designed the video to lead people to ANY Christian church in Simi Valley. Watch for it, pray for it, believe God for a HARVEST through it, and be open to asking your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members if they've seen it. Ask them what they thought of it, and invite them to church with you!

Open, with you, for God to use us for a fresh Harvest ...
